PMR446 Band in Australia

I would like to propose a controversial use for the European PMR446 Band of Channels here in Australia. If the ACMA were to agree to the use of the band here they could be used by both Amateurs and Non-Amateurs to liaise with each other for educational purposes and also public safety purposes like CFA, SES and other volunteer services.

The radios are already available online and I’m sure many are already illegally in use here in Australia anyway. The EU power and type approval should also be adhered to for Non-Amateur use. Amateurs should be able to use their existing equipment, observing power levels as closely as possible or a maximum of 5 watts.

These are my thoughts only and I certainly do not encourage Non-Amateurs using the PMR446 band here in Australia at this point in time. I would be interested in others ideas on my proposal.
