History of the Welfare Net

The Weekday Welfare Net started life in the early days of Covid lockdowns and was originally called the Isolation Net.

During this time Melbourne and many other parts of Australia were in lockdown with people forced to stay at home. This caused issues for many people being isolated from contact with the outside world. So I came up with the idea of holding a daily net for Amateurs to keep in touch and help with the isolation. I contacted VK3TIM who coordinates the VK Repeater Linked System and asked if I could hold a net on the Linked System especially to keep amateurs in contact during this trying time, Tim was more than happy for this to go ahead and the Net was born.

After about 6 months of successful weekday nets I thought the Isolation Net sounded a little depressing and came up with the Weekday Welfare Net. This net has grown and with the help of many other Amateurs filling in when I have been unwell. Thanks to these back up controllers the net has strengthened and continued for around 4 years now.
